What book to buy closer to jazz? A question that sometimes I was given by friends or students. Often responds to listen, just listen. The volumes on the history of jazz a bit 'scared and often carry far. Innamorasi for a woman is not necessary to read "Falling in Love and Love" by Alberoni. It happens. It just happens. Then, perhaps, we discover that might be nice to read Sandro Penna, Giorgio Caproni, Eugenio Montale, Pablo Neruda, Catullus, and many others find ourselves and find out what these poets have been so brilliant and profound in telling the same love that we are living day to day. And like magic our real love is shown between the written word. Immortalized forever. We wallow in this feeling that will not explain but which is able to amplify our feelings.
If you listen to music to fall in love we can find the music itself. It can be enchanted. Paolo Fresu's book, Inside Music, just released by Feltrinelli, there is a book that explains nothing, but who knows how to ravish us with the simplicity and at the same time genuine depth that has always been the way of approaching this music for trumpet. With writing
Fresu able to pursue his musical discourse. One apparent simplicity hides a love for curiosity. Human and intellectual curiosity. Only real engine for the existence of an artist. Far from Conceptualism and music into rote learning offers the simplicity of falling for a man for music. And through this process, a sort of identification, not just something we discover more of this musician who left his land of Sardinia and brought Italian jazz around the world, but find a way to live the romantic and charming 'Art in the round. Fresu theorizes there love for music, but we do live as Montale in the poem "I fell, giving his arm a million stairs" sa love to photograph in its very essence. It seems strange but, to know something more about the music and not only on jazz, I recommend this book because it can not tell us anything more than it already is in the music.

MY IMAGES AND EMOTIONS





In these days of rain in a sudden show us from summer to autumn I go back to the pages of my blog. The sadness brings desire to play and when it is still more strong writing. The occasion, which is far from being sad, is the output of the photo book "My Jazz - Pictures and emotions" of his friend Patrick Gianquintieri. Photographs of jazz musicians. Musicians in black and white. Now more and more in black, and shades without boundaries, annihilated by a world increasingly away from the importance of music. Just watch the video of the next post dedicated to ranting speech by the Minister Brunetta on the musicians to understand what I mean.

From "My jazz - images and emotions"


know little the art of photography. But I have always been convinced that there are two ways, or rather two-tier approach to any art form: that of the technician who knows every trick that sees beyond where he sees the common people, and that the viewer curious and sensitive effect has mostly fascinating, imaginative and often becomes involved with the artistic mediation always had great respect for it.
True lovers of photography can live the two times (and this I think it's the thing more rewarding but requires a lot of sacrifices and dedication). Critics often, not always happily, using only the first level of technicality, forgetting the second level is that of enveloping wonder about themselves in pages of criticism that often tell us little.
I learned with photos of Patrick Gianquintieri to live the second level of enjoyment, that of 'enchantment and mystery.

His photographs do not reread the instant of the player but he gives his own interpretation, just like a jazz musician before a song by Cole Porter and Duke Ellington.
