DISTANCES
About a month I've done a nice gig with Attilio Zanchi and Garrison Fewell, two fine musicians, but above all two people that is nice to spend time together.
What important for me to make music. On that occasion, Attilio gave me his cd made with drummer Marco Castiglioni and pianist Mauro Grossi, entitled "Distance", published by "Music Center". By Marco Attilio and we've known for years but has not happened very often play together while Mauro Grossi do not know him personally but I've always heard good things about him from many musicians.
Yes, but so far one says I'm doing it because Max Mushroom? What we care?
Yes it is true, I was a bit 'wordy, but all to tell you that this CD is among the most beautiful cd I've heard recently and simply hope that someone who has the opportunity to hear him read.
A trio that plays with heart and head. An excellent combination of a precious and a beautiful balance also by the excellent record of Joseph Emmanuel (also and above all supremely pianist) and Paul Censi.
The songs in the lineup fell from a swing of Abercrombie in a traditional Palestinian track to "La fille aux cheveux de lin" by Debussy. Then a beautiful ballad by Duke Ellington called "On a Turquoise Cloud" (I did not know and it was a beautiful outdoor) and fine original songs composed by members of the trio. Spruce is always great when dialing. Among the most talented composers of Italian jazz (and I'm convinced from listening to his vinyl from "Early Spring" took place about twenty years ago). And the thing that is striking that in such a diverse lineup the ability of the group is to be able to personalize everything and give the whole cd a planning and a sound that's on paper it would seem difficult with so many different tracks. A CD that can be enjoyed from the first listen but at the same hides a depth that can be perceived only after a bit 'of plays. Two beautiful souls for a record that is a credit to our jazz and shows us that not always (actually almost never) the disks are fine in the catalogs of major and must have the patience or luck to look in the catalogs of those who play them hard and prints them without thinking about the income statement.
Then these "distances" gave me the opportunity to listen to Mauro I think is a big pianist underestimated. A great pianist, but really. Allow them a moment Bollani (which is a great, one of the largest, but not just him) and ascoltatevi Mauro Grossi. Well beyond the words that are time finding this is really a beautiful cd and these three musicians play together really well. A compliment to
Marco, and Mauro Attilio. The next step is going to hear live, I hope some of you may. Good Music
